Temple Touch Thermometer Review and Giveaway

Luckily we haven't had a sick little girl in our house for a long while. I guess I should knock on wood now that I have said that out loud. But we have been hit with some fevers in the last two years.

When I was pregnant we registered for one of those baby health and grooming kits that just about every brand puts together and come with things like nail clippers, brush and comb, toothbrush, medicine dropper, nasal aspirator and digital thermometer thinking it would cover all of our needs. Well, it took one fever to learn that the thermometer that came in our set is terrible.

Sick infants and toddlers do not generally enjoy having their temperature taken. Probably because on top of feeling hot, achy, and just plain yucky, they also don't understand why they are having to sit still for so long with a plastic thing shoved under their arm. Whoever made the thermometer we got in our kit should know this much, but it still takes 2-4 minutes for both of our digital thermometers to read our daughters temperature.

Four minutes is a long time in sick baby time and even longer in worried mommy time. So when an expectant mommy friend asked recently if I had any suggestions for what she should register for I automatically told her a good thermometer was a very important thing to have. In funny stroke of coincidence shortly after our conversation I received the Temple Touch Thermometer, by ReliOn, to review.

The Temple Touch Thermometer is different from any thermometer I have ever used. Before opening it I read the packaging to get a better idea of what was to come. Here is how ReliOn explains how it works on the packaging:
Utilizing a unique sensor, the ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer rapidly samples the heat flowing from blood vessels to the skin surface and translates it accurately to body temperature.
The Temple Touch Thermometer comes with batteries and instructions so moments after opening the packages I had read through the instructions and was ready to test out the thermometer with my daughter.

Watch this video if you want to see the Temple Touch Thermometer in action with my 2-year-old daughter:

Our thoughts on ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer:

We tried the Temple Touch on Me, Luke, our daughter, and our daughters 2 year old friend. The instructions say that the thermometer could take 6-8 seconds to give a reading. In our tests this thermometer didn't take longer than seven seconds to give a temperature reading. We were very impressed with the short amount of time it takes to get a temperature reading from the Temple Touch as compared to our other digital thermometers. A six second temperature reading also means that I can sneak in and take my daughter's temperature while she is sleeping and be in and out of her room in less than 10 seconds knowing how her fever is.

The only downside I have found so far is that you need to wait 2 minutes between readings to allow the Temple Touch to readjust to room temperature. Personally I would rather get a quick reading and have to wait for 2 minutes to take the next reading as opposed to having the actual temperature reading take 2 minutes (or longer).

I also appreciate that the Temple Touch comes with batteries and when the batteries need replacing only requires two AAA batteries instead of some special sized super expensive battery.

It is safe to say that the Temple Touch will be our go to thermometer and we will no longer be using those other thermometers in our house. It really means a lot that I can take my daughters temperature and have an accurate reading in such a short amount of time. Which in turn means I can spend my time taking care of her while she is sick and not standing there waiting and waiting for a lame thermometer to finally give me a reading. And on the plus side my daughter actually thinks it is kind of neat and exciting to use so hopefully she won't mind sitting still for all of six seconds while she is sick to have her temperature taken.

Our final say:
The ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer gets the Evolving Mommy, Evolving Daddy and Evolving Daughter seal of approval.

  56. I want one of these little gadgets because I am obsessive and a worrier. With a traditional rectal thermometer - all I have right now - I worry that I didn't leave it in long enough, that DD's wiggling somehow prevented it from getting an accurate reading, that I didn't shake it down enough before taking her temp, although I don't think that matters, etc. etc. I need something reliable and quick and this product seems great!
